Children learn who God is from their earthly Father. It shapes how they love others and how they believe they are loved by God. A father’s love is something a child learns, not earns.
Our children need Fathers who love their children without a measure to earn their love. A Father’s love is something a child learns, not earns. This includes withholding affection, affirmation, emotional support and everyday needs.
Our children need Dads that play with them. Encourage them. Read to them. Sing to them. Lead them. Teach them. Forgive… them. Apologize to them. Engage them. Learn about them. Laugh with them. Hurt with them. And so much more.
Our children need to see how they are seen by God through their earthly Father’s eyes. They need to be loved in the way our God loves.
If you have an earthly Father like this, praise God for him. Celebrate him this Father’s Day.
If you do not have an earthly Father to celebrate remember your heavenly Father and all he has for you. Celebrate his love for you.
“For you know how, like a father with his children, we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.” 1 Thess 2:11
